It’s Time to Say Goodbye (Forever)

We develop an almost irrational loyalty to cars we’ve owned during significant chapters of our lives. Over time they become a symbol of youth, or a symbol of freedom—and people often hold onto them for many years simply for sentimental reasons. But holding onto an extra vehicle can quickly become a burden—you may find that cherished car sitting in your yard for years, in far worse shape than when you left it. I think it’s time I finally admit I’m only keeping my Scion xB around for sentimental reasons.

We may feel like selling a treasured vehicle means losing a piece of our identity. But once we finally come to realize that the car was merely a symbol of our memories, and they won’t be lost when the car goes away, we can finally let go without remorse or regret.
